The purpose of the course, is to give students practical experience in project management in food and packaging innovation and also understanding and experience in running international projects. The course will further give student knowledge on the concepts of integrated product and packaging development.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
• Define and predict the target customer of the new product,
the method of use of the product, and the expected sales
volumes
• describe and evaluate packaging systems considering food
product requirements, user requirements, and environmental
requirements
• plan and design a global product innovation project
• describe and explain the concept of integrated product and
packaging development
• explain and discuss the relations between packaging material
and food product
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
• identify food product, market, user, logistical and
environmental requirements, on the packaging system
• demonstrate the ability to carry out a global product
innovation project
• demonstrate the ability to carry out project work in parallel
with other project carried out at other university
• collaborate with team for food development at
AgroParisTech
• apply the concept of integrated product and packaging
development in practice
• communicate project results both in written and orally
The course is based on introductory lectures in food, packaging and innovation and the major part of the course is project work with supervision. In the project the students should evaluate and propose a packaging system for a food product developed in parallel at AgroParisTech in France. The students should create a package prototype.

Assessment: Examination will be made on group work.
