Create knowledge about activities and processes in industrial product realization and give a view of the importance of material selection during product design, choice of manufacturing methods and recycling possibilities of products.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
Master the fundamental nomenclature within the field of product realization and be able to describe central activities within the same field.
be able to describe necessary considerations during material selection
be able to describe the demands put on products or components in a production technique perspective
be able to describe properties and characteristics of different manufacturing processes regarding to limitations and possibilities of quality, production rate, batch size and disturbance sensibility
be able to describe the characteristics of different types of production and layouts
to have an understanding about the demands that must be made on a manufacturing system regarding environment and recycling aspects
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
be able to use the production realization nomenclature in written form and in speech
be able to identify a material selection influence on product realization and recycling
be able to identify productional critical demands connected to products or components
be able to select manufacturing methods under given technical and economic considerations
be able to form several manufacturing methods into a manufacturing system
be able to estimate the conditions and consequences for recycling of a product or component
The course highlights the entire field of product realization. The focus is firmly on the part of product realization termed manufacturing system. Initially, the important interactions that occur between the product and production development is described, in particular, material selection plays a central role. The course deals with how the production technical demands on surfaces and dimensions and how these component requirements can be achieved through appropriate choice of manufacturing methods. Principles of the material selection is treated overall while various materials are described. It examines various properties of manufacturing methods, all with respect to material technical conditions, batch size and range of possible quality. By combining several different manufacturing methods, a manufacturing system formed. Different types of production layouts and its properties are treated. Finally an overall description of how the material in different products can be recycled is given.
