The course should give advanced knowledge in solid state structural chemistry and materials chemistry including relevant methods of characterisation and synthesis. The course should also deepen the knowledge of the relationship between atomic structure and the chemical and physical properties of a material.

The course covers the main areas; atomic structure in inorganic materials, methods for the characterisation of solid materials, synthesis of crystalline materials, the relationship between atomic structure and physical properties. The course also covers defects in crystalline materials.

Project assignment:Practical exercises selected to highlight important parts of the course. The project work is presented as a written report and an oral presentation.


Examination details

Grading scale: TH
Assessment: Written final exam (gives the grade). Passed oral presentation and passed project report of applied project.


Required prior knowledge: KOO101 Fundamental Chemistry, KOO022 Inorganic Chemistry, KOO052 Materials- and Polymer Technology.
