Decided by: Education Board 3
Date of Decision: 2012-04-13
Main field: Industrial Design.
Compulsory for: KID3
Language of instruction: The course might be given in English
The student will learn how to work with a design project from a holistic perspective with an extreme user in mind. The student will learn how to synthesize previously acquired knowledge with new knowledge obtained during the course.
Furthermore, to carry out a design project with the aim of practising theoretical and artistic knowledge.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
• by using previous knowledge of the creative process, be
able to identify and analyse a particular user in order to
identify needs and to develop an applicable innovative product.
• develop an individual project description and independently
plan the project based on the specific project requirements.
• in a structured manner collect and categorize relevant
information and be able to analyse the information.
• demonstrate a logical and coherent understanding of the chosen
project field.
• identify relevant design methods and apply them in
practice.
• strive to develop new, innovative design concepts based on
conclusions from an apparent design process.
• present the project in a creative, organised and lucid manner
with the aid of relevant tools.
• demonstrate critical thinking and logical basis for one's own
work; be able to reflect on her/his own design processes and those
of others.
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
Carry out an individual design project within a given time frame and master relevant methods in the design process (e.g. oral presentation, sketching, prototyping, visualization etc.).
Theoretical and methodological aspects will be applied to and combined with practical exercises using advanced design methods and creative techniques in order to develop a design solution to the initial problem (i.e. the extreme user situation mentioned above).
Grading scale: TH
Assessment: 80 % attendance required. The assesment is based on a project documentation and an oral presentation.
The number of participants is limited to: No
