Aim

The student is introduced to the basics of optics, photo techniques, product photography and the photographic image as a means of expression. After completing the course, the students should be able to apply basic photographic techniques and perform a simple product photo shoot. They should be somewhat familiar with the photographic image as a means of expression.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

To pass the course, the student must understand the elements of optics, photo techniques and product photography.  

Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must

- Photograph models and real surroundings in natural and artificial light, both indoors and outdoors.

- Create an image through which an idea is communicated.

 

Contents

The course starts off with a lecture on elementary optics and camera techniques. An assignment is formulated which aims at developing students' knowledge  of the photographic image as a means of expression. Product photography in a photo studio under supervision and a seminar where the assignment is reported, conclude the course.


Grades are given based on the the project assignment which is reported orally and with images within the given time frame, and a product photo shoot which is reported with images.

Grading scale: UG
Assessment: 80 % attendance required. The assessment is based on documentation and an oral presentation of group work.
