The course has as its objective to further strengthen the students’ oral and written proficiency in Spanish. Furthemore the give an overview of Spanish and Latin American society, culture and literature. The focus of the course is the modern society in the 20th century.

The course is divided into two modules
Module 1
The first module includes area studies focusing on the geography and modern history of Spain and Latin America. The teaching consists of lectures accompanied by discussions in Spanish. The study of texts together with the teaching aims, on the one hand, to increase the knowledge of culture and society and, on the other hand, to further improve the oral proficiency in Spanish
Module 2
The second module includes text analysis with a particular focus on one specific work of literature and some complementary literary texts. The texts are studied with a focus on vocabulary and grammar. The teaching consists of lectures accompanied by discussions in Spanish. The aim of the study is, on the one hand, to convey a literary content and, on the other hand, to further improve the written proficiency in Spanish.
