The aim of the course is to give the basic knowledge of solid mechanics with applications to everyday engineering problems.

Contents

The following subjects are dealt with in the course: Stress and strain analyses, mainly the state of plain stress. The three simple loadcases; uniaxial traction force, torque and bending moments applied to straight bars. Statically indeterminate beams. Fatigue. Rheological models.

Assessment: Written examination at the end of the course.

Required prior knowledge: FMA430 Calculus in Several Variables, Basic courses in Engineering Mechanics.
