The course provides theories and technically oriented knowledge within the area of strategic management and economic analysis as well as a basis for understanding the interconnectedness between strategy, organization and management control. In order to sustain understanding the theories, models and tools of the course are continuously related and applied to cases and real companies in terms of problem identification and problem solving.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
Hold knowledge and understanding about basic concepts and models within strategic management and economic analysis
Are prepared to autonomously communicate and argument for individual problem identification and problem solving
Competences and skills
For a passing grade the student must
Have the ability to apply the basic tools of strategic management and economic analysis in order to develop
advanced problem identification and problem solving.
Have the skills to integrate and understand relations between the strategic, administrative and operative
organizational levels.

Teaching consists of lectures, seminars, group studies, reports, guest lectures and on occasion, company visits.
The structure of the course and its form of examination demands regular attendance and continuous work with a variety of tasks.
An overall objective with the course is to facilitate for students to appropriate an integrative working method that makes it possible for them to be characterized as both action oriented and analytic.

In order to sustain understanding the theories, models and tools of the course are continuously related and applied to cases and real companies in terms of problem identification and problem solving.
Students are expected to appropriate knowledge and skills through both written and oral forms of argumentation.
After a brief introduction to the basic concepts and models of economic analysis, the course covers the following areas:
Economic organization and firm boundaries
Market and competitive analysis
Strategic position and dynamics
Internal organization and control
Grading scale: UV
Assessment: Examination takes place through written exam of assigned tasks during the course. Extra examination opportunities are provided in close connection to the regular examination of the course. The following grades are used: Pass with distinction, Pass and Fail.
