Compulsory for: IBYI2, IBYV2. Course coordinator: Lena Hiselius, and Ebrahim Parhamifar,, Traffic and Roads. Recommended prerequisits: Road and railway engineering. Assessment: Students are examined both individually and in a collaborative group. The group exam consists of performances in the Problem Based Learning (PBL) groups in terms of participation in discussions, presentations and attendance. Individual exams consist of report writing. The aim is to provide fundamental knowledge of the national economic theories and models used in transportation.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Explain the various concepts and definitions in national and transport economics.

Describe the differences in economic theories and models used in economic calculations.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

Apply theoretical prioritising models to analyse different resource allocations.

Use acquired skills to convey information to target groups by means of written and oral presentations.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

Seek relevant information for further study and application in his/her occupational role as an engineer

The course offers knowledge of theories and national economics, as well as models used in the subject areas of road construction and traffic planning and engineering. Various concepts and national economic models for prioritising among decisions are discussed, as are various forms of financing and their effects on procurement for different projects
