MECHANICSVSMA01
Credits: 5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G1 (First Cycle). Main field: Industrial Design. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. VSMA01 overlaps following cours/es: VSM101. Compulsory for: KID1. Course coordinator: Tekn lic Kristian Stålne, kristian.stalne@byggmek.lth.se and Professor Göran Sandberg, goran.sandberg@byggmek.lth.se, Structural Mechanics. Assessment: Examination comprises three moments: two project tasks, which are presented orally, and a written exam. The result from these moments is weighed to a final grade to the proportions 20 %, 40 % and 40 %, respectively. In the two project tasks the students work in pairs and in groups of 4-5 students, respectively. The grade of the project tasks is given to the group as a whole. The final grade of the course is individual.

Contents
Fundamental concepts, quantities and relations which are used for characterizing material, forces and deformations are explained. From real-life situations problems are defined and suitable models are chosen for a conceptual analysis of the problem. Examples of discussed concepts and quantities are mass, centre of gravity, stiffness, force, moment and equilibrium.
