MARKET DRIVEN PRODUCT DEVELOPMENTTMAF01
Credits: 5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. TMAF01 overlaps following cours/es: TMAN10. Compulsory for: TEMA4. Course coordinator: Professor Robert Bjärnemo, Technology Management. Assessment: The course includes a compulsory project which is carried out in groups of 3-5 students. Approved project earning a score between 25 - 50 points. All group members receive the same number of points earned on the projects. Aim
In the overall perspective this course is aming at giving the students insights into innovative development work in industry - in a market guided perspective. The objective is that the products resulting from these efforts should provide customer satisfaction, new production and thus assure the continuation and further development of the industrial enterprise.

The course starts up by introducing the product planning or alternatively the product renewal process. Within this process it is explained how the industrial enterprise, based on the business goal, initiates an overhaul of the product assortment. This is followed by generating a number of product (project) proposals, a product portfolio, suitable to be carried out as product development projects in the enterprise.

In the next part of the course the product development process is elaborated upon. Focus is set on the conceptual development phase. After having introduced the theoretical development procedure a conceptual development project is carried out based on the resukts from the initial product planning project.

Contents
The course starts with the introduction of a process for product planning and roduct development – emphasising the Concept Development phase of the product development process. In addition also the marketing aspects of high-technology products are introduced, thus enabling the course focus on market driven product development. The integrated product planning and product development project is carried out in Swedish industry or in virtual company. The projects is carried out in groups of 3-5 students.

For the the theoretical parts of the course, a written examé is given in the mid time of the course.
