PROJECTING THERMAL POWER PLANTSMVKN01
Credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Optional for: M5en. Course coordinator: Magnus Genrup, Magnus.Genrup@energy.lth.se and Jens Klingmann, Jens.Klingmann@energy.lth.se, Energy Sciences. Prerequisites: MVK026 Theory of Turbomachinery, MMVF01 Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics. Assessment: The examination is carried out individually and in group. The compulsory project assignments have to be presented written as well as orally in seminars, where all group members are required to participate actively. To pass the course, the student must pass all of the compulsory tasks. To receive the higher grades (4) and (5) the student must pass the written exam. Home page: http://www.energy.lth.se.

Aim
The purpose of the course is to give the student skills to choose the most appropriate alternative for any given economic environment through techno-economical analysis of power plants.

Contents
Each student must carry out a pre-projecting of a combined cycle plant during the first part of the course. In the beginning of the course the students develop their own heat and mass balance program, using Matlab. The commercial heat and mass balance program, IPSEpro, will be introduced in parallel. Using this program the students will be able to validate the results of their pre-projecting assignment. At the same time the commercial program allows the students to carry out more advanced calculations of combined cycles in the end of the course.

Literature
The major part of the acquired literature will be handed out during the course. In addition to this some reference literature will be available in the lecture rooms and the students are encouraged to use these when writing the final project report.
