ENGINEERING DESIGN TECHNIQUESMMKN05
Credits: 5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. MMKN05 overlaps following cours/es: MMK095 and MMK097. Compulsory for: MD4. Optional for: M4me, M4pu. Course coordinator: Prof Robert Bjärnemo, robert.bjarnemo@mkon.lth.se, Machine Design. Recommended prerequisits: MMKF01 Product Development or equivalent course. The course might be cancelled if the number of applicants is less than 15. Assessment: To receive a final passing grade, the student must receive a passing grade on the three individual assignments – one in mechanical joint design and two in embodiment design. Each assignment consists of a basic task (passing grade – 3 points), and two optional sub-tasks for those who would like to earn a higher grade (4 or 5 points). Only the basic task can be supplemented afterwards if the student does not pass the first time. The final grade will be the integer average of the points earned on the three individual assignments. Parts: 2. Home page: http://www.mkon.lth.se.

Aim
The course aims to provide students with insights into some of the techniques which are essential for the engineering designer such as mechanical joint design and embodiment design. Qualitative and quantitative methods are dealt with in each technique area.

Parts

Code: 0109. Name: Task 1 - Design of Mechanical Joint.
Higher education credits: 2,5. Grading scale: UG. Assessment: Individual assignment. The results are presented in a written report which will be assessed based on a criteria list, which is distributed by the instructor when the assignment is introduced. Contents: This assignment concerns the development and analysis of a joint:design - bolted and/or welded.

Code: 0209. Name: Task 2 - Embodiment Design.
Higher education credits: 2,5. Grading scale: UG. Assessment: Individual assignment. The results are presented in a written report which will be assessed based on a criteria list, which is distributed by the instructor when the assignment is introduced. Contents: This assignment concerns the development and analysis of an embodiment design for a solution principle. Actual solution alternatives are based on casted and/or welded solution principles.
