TRANSMISSIONS, DIMENSIONING

MME070

Credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Optional for: M4fo, M5pu. Course coordinator: Univ. lektor Lars Vedmar, Lars.Vedmar@mel.lth.se, Machine Elements. Recommended prerequisits: MME035/MMEF05 Transmissions and MME022/MMEF01 Tribology. Assessment: Compulsory design assignment. Participation in the examination requires that the design assignment has been approved. This can be approved only during the exercises which are scheduled for the specific assignment. Written examination. The grades 3, 4, and 5 demand 40, 60, and 80% correctness respectively in the examination.

Aim
The course gives detailed knowledge in how to dimension gears, variators, ropes and valve mechanisms.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

have knowledge of how to calculate stresses and deformations in different kinds of machine elements.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to dimension different kinds of machine elements with use of analysis taught in the course.

Contents
Variators. Spur and helical gear strength. Differential gears. Ropes. Valve mechanisms. Contact between dry surfaces.
