Contents
The course discuss basic organic compounds classes such as alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, alcohols, alkyl halides, ethers, amines, aromatic compounds, and carbonyl compounds. Basic concepts, such as nomenclature, isomery, and physical properties, are discussed and used in the course part concerning reactivity. The mechanisms of important reactions, such as substitutions, additions, reductions, oxidations, eliminations, and rearrangements, are used to explain chemical reactions.

In laboratory experiments provides a deeper comprehension of organic reactivity, ability to follow simpler experimental descriptions under supervision in order to analyze and synthesize organic compounds, and the ability to search and assess information concerning the risk aspects of chemical compounds and reactions.

An important aspect is to be able to draw clear drawings of organic molecules and organic reactions and describe organic reactions, orally and in writing. The importance of organic chemistry in the society and in the environment is emphasized all through the course.
