CHEMICAL REACTION ENGINEERINGKET045
Credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. KET045 overlaps following cours/es: KTE022 and KTE023. Compulsory for: B3, K3. Course coordinator: Professor Arne Andersson, Arne.Andersson@chemeng.lth.se, Chemical Engineering. Recommended prerequisits: KETA01 Chemical Engineering or KKKA01 Biotechnology, FMA410 Calculus in One Variable and KFK080 Thermodynamics. Assessment: Written examination and simulation tasks. Aim
An important work task for chemical and biochemical engineers is to participate in the realization of chemical reactions in both large and small scale. The work requires knowledge in dimensioning, simulation and choice of reactor type considering given prerequisites. The course gives the basic skills that are required for further studies and professional development in reaction engineering.

Contents
Chemical Reaction Engineering gives basic knowledge about reactor models, mass transfer and applied reaction kinetics. Subjects that are treated include material and energy balances for ideal reactor models (isothermal and nonisothermal liquid and gas phase reactions), choice of reactor model, heterogeneous reaction systems (reactor models, external and internal mass transfer and kinetic expressions), diffusion and reaction in porous particles, non-ideal reactors and simulation of chemical reactions to illustrate the properties of different reactor models.
