Aim
The student will learn how to work with a design project out of holistic perspective when it comes to an extreme user. The student will learn how to synthesize their previously acquired knowledge with new knowledge that comes out of the course.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

be able to analyse a scenario related to an extremely skilled and specialized user in order to identify needs and to develop an applicable innovative product using his or her previously acquired knowledge of the creative process. Aesthetical and communicative aspects shall be incorporated; the result will be presented as model, 3D visualisation and a written report.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

The grades are depending on attendance, participation, quality of development, completion of home assignments, final presentation and result(s).

Contents
The course commences with an introduction to what defines “quality” in relation to an extremely skilled and specialized user. An inspirational lecture will be given by a guest from an area which may be different every year, and will give an introduction to a user scenario where the quality related issues will be illustrated.

The course will then be defined with a design project where the given user describes needs in a specified extreme user situation. Along with the project there will be follow up briefings related to user, materials and techniques as required.

Theoretical and methodological aspects will be applied to and accompanied by practical exercises using design methods in depth and creative techniques so as to develop a design solution to the extreme user situation mentioned above. Previously acquired skills such as sketching, computer aided drawing/illustration and model making will be included alongside marketing related aspects (user polls, target group definitions, mood-boarding, etc).

Literature
To be decided depending on contents in the project
