Credits: 7. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G1 (First Cycle). Main field: Industrial Design. Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. IDEA70 overlaps following cours/es: TEK055. Recommended prerequisits: Two years studies in industrial design. Assessment: The student must present in writing and orally the analyses carried out and the result of the completed project. Aim
The students will have knowledge and understanding of business terminology, the business context and learn how to see the relationships between design process and the company's strategic business development.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

- be able to explain basic concepts and aspects of the company's strategic business development

- have an understanding of the link between the design process, it´s practices and corporate activities related to business development strategy

- have an understanding of the designer's role in the company, as a consultant or as an employee.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

- problematise, analyze and develop a design policy which highlights how a company can integrate design in its strategic business development

- analyze a company's/organization's integration of design activities, and evaluate this based on the literature

- be able to discuss the industrial designer's role in the development of and being a part of corporate strategy and business development.

Contents
Companies’ activities related to strategies, business development and innovation and the relationship to the design are discussed from several angles with the help of guests, case studies and business literature. Design is interpreted as consisting of design thinking, processes and methods.

Design management refers to management and responsibility for the company's various design areas.

The focus of the course will be on business terminology and the relationship to the design process.
