INTEGRATED A/D AND D/A CONVERTERSETI220
Credits: 6. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in English. Compulsory for: MSOC1. Optional for: D4, D4dpd, E4, E4dpd. Course coordinator: Associate professor Pietro Andreani, Pietro.Andreani@eit.lth.se, Electrical and Information Technology. Prerequisites: ESSF01 Analogue Circuits. Assessment: Attending at least 10 lectures, finishing all 4 lab works, and delivering qualified lab reports guarantee grade 3. For higher grades (4 or 5), a written examination is required. Further information: The course will be given in English. Home page: http://www.eit.lth.se/course/eti220.

Aim
This course is to give student the knowledge about two kinds of important mixed signal circuits, A/D and D/A converters, which are getting more and more importance in modern electronic systems. While digital techniques become undoubtedly efficient, most of the electronic systems still have to deal with analogue signals, e.g. the radio channel in a wireless system. High performance A/D and D/A converters are the key building blocks in such systems. It is also desirable to move the analogue-digital interface towards the front-end in a software-defined radio. In designing A/D and D/A converters, there are big challenges in speed, dynamic range, area, and power consumption. Embedded A/D and D/A converters become increasingly important due to the trend of system-on-chip.
