Aim
The aim of this course is to give basic knowledge of principles for storage and transmission of information, and the use of binary representation of information.

This course gives basic knowledge of todays and tomorrows system.

For a passing grade the student must

• be able to identify and formulate problems within the area of Information Theory

• be able to classify the level of difficulty of problems related to the his/her own level of knowledge

• be able to show ability to handle new methods and results

• be able to realize systems for the algoritkms presented in the course

Contents
The transmission of information is at the heart of what we call communication. The fundamental idea of information theory is that all communication is essentially digital. This course provides an up-to-date introduction to information theory. The course emphasizes both the formal development of the theory and the engineering implications for the design of communication systems and other information handling systems.
