Credits: 9. Grading scale: UG. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. EEMF01 overlaps following cours/es: EEM035. Compulsory for: F3. Course coordinator: Professor Thomas Laurell,, Electrical Measurements. Website: Parts: 2. Home page:

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the entrepreneurial possibilities as an engineer and to convey an active view on business development as a potential carreer way. Basic aspects on the entrepreneurial process and key concepts within business establishment will be highlighted. A goal is also to emphasize the importance of following an environmental line in the engineering process to move towards a sutainable society in the future. The course will therefore also stimulate a developed, active and critical view on the introduction and use of new technology in our effort to reach a sustainable society. The possibility to bring new and environmentally approved technology to the market will be emphasized and the skill to communicate and convey your message will be exersized during the debate practice and the final project presentation.

The aim is to provide insights into the position of the engineer in modern society and a perspective on the impact on new technology to the development of society. Especially emphasis is put on reflection on a societal consequence analysis of the transition to new technology. An active and critical mind is stimulated to reflect over benefits and draw backs when introducing new technology, where aspects on sustainable engineering are central. The process of bringing new technology to the market is highlighted, where issues such as patent and IPR, entrepreneurship, project management and quality control systems are emphasised. The skill and art of communication through different media is further highlighted and practised throughout the course.

The multifaceted role as professional engineer will be illustrated in an introductory lecture by a physics engineer who has worked in official adminstration as well as in start-up companies and global industry. The lecture topics will interlace between entrepreneurship and and environmental and sutainable aspects, wtíth an emphasis on business development during LP 1 and with an increased focus on environment and sustainable development during LP 2.

During the entire course the students will work independently in a project theme, which has an environmental core but also describes a relation to technology development, where an entrepreneurial/business aspect also is included.

During LP 1 the students outline a series of debate topics linked to the overall theme of the course, which are prepared for a live practice and debated in small groups during LP 2

During LP 1 the students develop and write a business plan on a business idea they have selected them selves.

During LP 2 the environmental and subtainable societal contents of the course a re examined in a written quiz.

The course is finalised on a conference day where the students present their project works in a series of oral presentations.
