Credits: 7,5. Grading scale: UG. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Architecture. Language of instruction: The course will be given in English. ASBN26 overlaps following cours/es: ASB111 and ASBN25. Compulsory for: MSUD1. Optional for: A4. Course coordinator: Senior lecturer Peter Siöström, peter.siostrom@arkitektur.lth.se, Architecture. Prerequisites: At least three years approved full time education at university level (or a Bachelor degree) in architecture, landscape architecture, spatial planning or urban design, or equivalent. The course might be cancelled if the number of applicants is less than 10. Assessment: Approved assignments, approved essay and at least 80% active participation at lectures, group presentations, study tours and seminars. Further information: With its focus on advanced artistic landscape design, the aim of this course is to inspire and develop the student’s creative ability and be of support for the design assignment in course ASBN16 Sustainable Urban Landscape.

Aim
The aim of the course is to develop the student’s knowledge about the importance of the landscape, the urban green structure and the garden for living environments, and their understanding for the connection between theory and practice, and to relate this in the form of an individually written essay assignment.

Contents
The focus of this course is on artistically qualified landscape design. The course deals with various aspects of the landscape and gardens, such as the history of garden design, the transformation of the cultural landscape, the urban landscape and the importance of the natural environment for peoples’ well being. The course provides the students with the opportunity of broadening their references related to artistically advanced design projects and coming into contact with leading practitioners in the field of landscape design. Tuition is in the form of lectures, study tours and individual essay assignments.
