INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP 1

Credits: 2. Grading scale: UG. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Architecture. Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. AFOF01 overlaps following cours/es: AFO260. Compulsory for: A3. Course coordinator: Professor Christer Malmström, christer.malmstrom@arkitektur.lth.se, Architecture. Prerequisites: Passed courses within the program of architecture comprising at least 60 credits or equivalent. Assessment: Approved assignments and at least 80% attendance in lectures and classwork, at seminars and during participants presentation of their results.

Aim
The course aims to give students an insight into the diversity of experiments included in the architect's work. Through practical work and experimentation, the student gets insight into and understanding of the architect's creative process.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

be acquainted with new creative approaches as tools for realization of spatial design in architecture and urban environment.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to communicate architectural ideas effectively by pictorial means as well as by use of models.
under supervision carry out projects of a complex character involving spatial design in an urban context.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

be able to use advanced digital software in the design process.
be able to discuss, in critical terms, relations between:
- what is individual and what is collective
- what is abstract and what is concrete
- what is virtual and what is real.

Contents
The course introduces a digital tools by means of lectures, exercises and an experimental project that explores the intersection of both architecture and art, both the imaginary and the real. At the same time as the tool is introduced, the creative ability to design architecture is trained.
