Credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. VTVF15 overlaps following cours/es: VVB071. Optional for: IBYV3, V4at, V4bf, V4tv. Course coordinator: Ebrahim Parhamifar, Ebrahim.Parhamifar@tft.lth.se, Road Construction. Recommended prerequisits: VVBF05 Infrastrukture design. Assessment: For a passing grade the participant must hand in two projects and a home assignment. Further information: The course is held in Lund. Home page: http://www.tft.lth.se.

Aim
The aim of the course is to provide students with the knowledge and skills required for optimal design and construction of a road.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Describe;

how to ensure the standard and bearing capacity of a road by using statistical acceptance inspection during its construction

properties of road construction materials.

field of application, possibilities and problems of using recycled material in road construction.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

Design a pavement with an incremental design model.

Draw up a simple production plan comprising calculations, tenders and material utilization based on construction specifications.

Choose suitable methods with which to derive input data for dimensioning on the basis of established dimensioning principles.

Contents
Methods for planning, dimensioning and implementation of a road facility, applicable to both Swedish and international conditions.

Ground investigations during ongoing work.

Swedish and international design principles.

Analytical design of road constructions. Calculation of stresses and strains in road material. Dimensioning according to criteria for material fatigue of exposed surfaces.

Material choice and properties. Material models for choice of bound and unbound material in road construction.
