Credits: 6. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. VGMF05 overlaps following cours/es: VGM021. Compulsory for: IBYV2. Course coordinator: Lars Ollvik, Department for the Built Environment. Prerequisites: VGM630 Geomatics, introduction. Assessment: Written exam, satisfactory assignment and participation in field exercises. Further information: The course is held in Lund. Lectures are shared with VGM021 Geodetic Surveying, Advanced Course.

Aim
The aim of the course is to provide in-depth knowledge of concepts and methods in satellite geodesy (GPS) and geodetic surveying with applications to real problems. The course creates and develops an understanding of the interconnections of geodesy, physical geodesy, map projections, satellite geodesy and geodetic surveying.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Develop an understanding of the connection that constitutes a prerequisite for the combination of satellite positioning and terrestrial surveying.

Formulate various types of mathematical models for geodetic problem-solving with the help of ordinary least squares (OLS). Understand and draw up solutions to various practical problems according to the regulations and norms.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

Apply the methodology to solve geodetic problems.

Carry out calculations using the ordinary least squares method (OLS) for some types of geodetic problems.

Participate in simpler practical field exercises.

Contents
The fundamental principles of geodesy and definitions, map projections, control point surveying, transformations, plane and levelling measurements, and theory of errors and tolerances.

The course comprises satellite positioning, terrestrial surveying and photogrammetry and their interconnections. Principles and fundamentals of geodetic surveying based on Swedish norms and rules for satellite surveying, map projections, control point network, transformations, plane and levelling measurements, theory of errors and tolerances, tolerance demands in the building and construction branch and photogrammetry. Considerable emphasis is placed on the connection between locations based on satellite and terrestrial techniques.

The teaching consists of lectures, exercises and field work
