SIMULATION OF FIRES IN ENCLOSURESVBRN15
Credits: 5. Grading scale: UG. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in English. VBRN15 overlaps following cours/es: VBR200. Compulsory for: MFST1. Course coordinator: Professor Patrick van Hees, Patrick.van_Hees@brand.lth.se, Fire Safety Engineering. Prerequisites: Fire Dynamics. Recommended prerequisits: Fire Chemistry and Explosions. The number of participants is limited to 40 Selection criteria: Student on the MFST programme or BSC exam or equivalent. Assessment: Written individual examination and approved individual assignments.

Aim
The course is designed to provide basic knowledge of how the spread of fire and combustion gases is simulated using ”Computational Fluid Dynamics” (CFD), in fire safety design and fire investigations. It also provides an understanding of the limitations of the numerical and physical models used and an awareness of the most common sources of error.
