Optional for: BI3, RH4. Course coordinator: Professor Patrick van Hees,, Fire Safety Engineering. Prerequisites: VBR033 Fire Dynamics. Recommended prerequisits: VBR022 Fire Chemistry and Explosions. The number of participants is limited to 40 Selection criteria: Credits remaining for the degree. Assessment: Written individual examination and approved individual assignments and group projects. The group project assignment shall be reported both orally and in writing. The written group report shall follow the Department of Fire Safety Engineering's regulations for assignments at Level II, Home page:

The course is designed to provide knowledge of how the spread of fire and combustion gases is simulated using ”Computational Fluid Dynamics” (CFD), vaious methods for modelling (LES, RANS) in fire safety design and fire investigations. It also provides an understanding of the limitations of the numerical and physical models used, and an awareness of the most common sources of error.
