Credits: 5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: A (Second Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Optional for: F4, F4es, I4, M4en, W4es. Course coordinator: Prof Svend Frederiksen, Svend.Frederiksen@energy.lth.se, Energy Sciences. Assessment: A written report, based on group work, shall be submitted before a deadline that will be stipulated when the course starts; each group member will be held responsible accordingly. There will be a written test focusing on topics having been lectured on as well as on subjects related to all written reports submitted by the various work groups, the reports having been made accessible to all participants from a date that will be stated at course start. Further information: The course will be based on lectures, group writing on a given topic, and a laboratory exercise and/or excursion(s) in order to demonstrate techniques for metering various types of energy supply. Aim
The course aims at providing an overview of the subject of energy transportation and at teaching specific knowledge about the most important types of energy transportation.

An important part of the course is to gain insight into various specific types of energy transportation technology. Upon having completed the course, participants are supposed to have acquired knowledge of particulars regarding each of the specific types of technologies that have been taught and to posses an understanding of features that are common to the various technologies. Additionally, participants shall have gained an insight into aspects of how energy transportation technologies on a broader basis are integrated into our society.

Contents
Main topics to be lectured on: Global energy transportation from societal and supply security perspectives. Transmission of electrical power - overall system technology, current scenarios, and technological developments. Local energy distribution within a sustainable society. District heating and cooling systems. Energy gases of various types: natural gas, LNG, biogas, hydrogen, etc.. Energy transmission within de-regulated markets. Technologies for transportation systems (battery technologies, bio-fuels, hydrogen, etc.). Current and prospective fuels for the transportation sector, as illustrated by selected examples.
