Credits: 5. Grading scale: TH. Cycle: G2 (First Cycle). Main field: Technology. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. MMEF01 overlaps following cours/es: MME022. Compulsory for: M3, MD3. Course coordinator: University lecturer Lars Vedmar, Lars.Vedmar@mel.lth.se, Machine Elements. Recommended prerequisits: FME052 Mechanics or FMEA01 Engineering Mechanics - Statics and Particle Dynamics together with FMEA25 Mechanics-Dynamics, and FHL013 Solid Mechanics. Assessment: Compulsory design assignment. Participation in the examination requires that the design assignment has been approved. This can be approved only during the exercises which are scheduled for the specific assignment. Written examination. Aim
The course gives knowledge in how to dimension rolling and sliding bearings.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

have knowledge of the methods of how to calculate the dimensions of rolling and sliding bearings.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to dimension rolling and sliding bearings with the use of theories taught in the course.

Contents
Theory of ball and roller bearings. Roller bearing calculations and dimensioning. Theory of hydrodynamic fluid films for sliding and rolling motion. Hydrodynamic bearings. Hydrostatic bearings. Lubricants.
