Aim
The aim of the course is for students to:

• understand how industrial work is organised with respect to the productivity of the production system as well as human needs and conditions.

• acquire basic knowledge in order to combine social and technical aspects to improve existing as well as future production systems.

• understand the terms and management demands of successful organisational improvements.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• define and discuss basic concepts about structure, distribution and organisation of work.

• explain the design of work and production systems and the relation to work satisfaction and productivity.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

• design a set-up for improvements activities in existing as well as future production systems.

• visualise and present a specific subject within the field of work organisation.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• suggest and motivate changes in an existing work organisation using basic concepts and principles within the field of work organisation.

Contents
Basic knowledge in work organisational theory and practice, historic review and trends within work organisation, management, participation, changes and improvements, organisational psychology, work organisation and productivity, stress and workload in working life, examples from industry.
