Aim
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge in biochemistry, particularly within protein chemistry, enzymology and metabolism as well as basic abilities in biochemical laboratory work.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

be able to explain and describe central methods for purification and characterization of proteins
be able to explain and describe enzyme function and regulation
be able to discuss and describe the three steps of energy metabolism on an semi-advanced level
be able to use the concept of oxidation/reduction to explain cellular energy transformations
be able to describe the cellular synthesis of biomolecules on a basic level
be able to explain, describe and generalise central concepts of metabolic regulation

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to in a group design and carry out a protein purification process in laboratory scale
have the ability to master some common biochemical laboratory techniques
