The course aims at giving the student knowledge, skills and experience from taking part in an industrially based mechatronic development project, which is conducted up to a working prototype. It is essential that the work is done in a team with competences from various fields. Most often, students from the Electrical Engineering and Mecanical Engineering programmes are participating.

The course Mechatronics, Industrial Product Planning, is given in close cooperation with the course Product Development Project (MMK101), also with an outstanding industrial connection. Some of the projects in the latter course are demanding the mechatronic competence that the students in this course can give.

The project is done during two study periods, for some students in cooperation with students in the Project Development course MMK101. The course participants should develop the mechatronic parts of those projects or other purely mechatronic products.

The development process starts with extensive information search, brain storming, and evaluation, activities which often encompass 30-40% of the total work load. Then follows selection of concept and constructive design of the product idea. The course is reported both orally and in writing.

Ordering of material, building, testing, and adjustments will be made in the course Mechatronics, Industrial Product Design, which concludes with the official presentation of the designed products, where representatives from industry, course leaders, and media take part.
