HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE II

Credits: 6. Grading scale: UG. Cycle: G1 (First Cycle). Main field: Architecture. Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. AHIA05 overlaps following cours/es: AHI021. Compulsory for: A1. Course coordinator: Assistant Professor Anna Maria Blennow, Anna-Maria.Blennow@arkitektur.lth.se, Architecture and Built Environment. Assessment: Attendance (80%) to lectures and passed written examination. Further information: The course will be given every two year. The course will be given in Swedish. The course will be given next time autumn 2010.

Aim
The course will give a survey of European and Scandinavian architecture- and gardenhistory from classical antiquity to the 19th century.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

be able to give an account of basic knowledge in architectural history and garden history
be able to identify and describe the most important architects, buildings and conceptions in European and Scandinavian architecture
be able to describe the principal design of gardens from the period

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to describe different periods in archtiectural and garden history and put them in connection with actual histrical, politic, cultural and philosophical currents

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

make use of historical references to enrich their own projects

Contents
European and Scandinavian history of architecture and the history of gardens from antiquity to modern times.
