Aim
The aim of the course is for engineers to gain insight into the architect's work in order to better cooperate and communicate with them in the building process. It will provide knowledge and understanding of the architect’s working methods and range of activities, as well as a short history of trends in architecture and particularly in housing construction from the beginning of the 1900 to the present. Several of the classes begin with a lecture and conclude with a seminar discussion on the literature assignments.

Contents
Presentation of the intentions and points of departure architects have in project planning and construction. The lectures, seminars and exercises describe and analyse the qualities that architects want to achieve in buildings. Students will be given a brief introduction to some of the architect’s “tools” – blueprints, models and programs. In a guided tour of Lund, the students will visit public buildings constructed in the last decade. Alternatively, a study tour will be made to modern housing estates and new official buildings in Skåne. The course includes two exercises: construction of a model of a building of architectural-historical interest (e.g. famous architects’ homes) and the design of a “dream home” in a fictitious location.
