STUDIO LECTURES AT THE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE C

AAHB31

Credits: 1. Grading scale: UG. Cycle: G1 (First Cycle). Main field: Architecture. Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. Compulsory for: A1. Course coordinator: Professor Christer Malmström, christer.malmstrom@arkitektur.lth.se, Architecture and Built Environment. Assessment: Approved assignment task and at least 80% attendance at seminars and lectures. In the case of non-pass the student has the right to a new examination after amendment. The examiner informs the student as to what is required in order to achieve a pass. Further information: The course is compulsory for students in year 1 and 2.

Aim
Themes of priority within the School of Architecture are communicated through this course. Comprehensive engagements as sustainability and an experimental approach are illustrated by examples from practising architects or researchers as well as through adjacent disciplines. The intention is to give students´ an early understanding of the potential field of action as architects.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

demonstrate insight and ability to describe different approaches which an architect can assume towards a project,
demonstrate insight and ability to describe the process of architectural design and its relation to values in society and the given task.

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

demonstrate ability to in an active way discuss the role of architecture in society,
demonstrate ability in written form to reflect upon profession and society.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

demonstrate ability to discuss the different roles an architect can take in society,
demonstrate ability to judge aspects of sustainability concerning buildings and the built environment.

Contents
The overall intention of the course is to give insights concerning the field of operation of architects and its relation to society. Researchers and practitioners give input together with adjacent professions. A written short essay on the task of the course summarize, together with seminars on the topic, the period.S
