VSM051 overlap following cours/es: VSM045, VSM045, VSM045, VSMN10, VSM045 och VSMN10. Optional for: M4, M4mo. Course coordinator: Göran Sandberg, och Per-Erik Austrell,, Byggnadsmekanik. Prerequisites: VSM040 The finite element method or FHL064 The finite element method, and additionally 11p on an advanced level within the areas solid mechanics, mechanics, structural engineering or applied mathematics. (An example of suitable courses for Civil Engineering students are Beam theory, Steel construction, Concrete construction and Applied mathematics.). Recommended prerequisits: Structural Mechanics, Advanced Course, The Finite Element Method (VSM040). The course might be cancelled if the numer of applicants is less than 15. Assessment: The assessment is based on hand-in assignments, two computational reports and a final oral discussion. Home page:

The aim of the course is to give methods within modern structural dynamics and application of those withim various fields of structural design, i.e. building and vehicle design.

Single-dof models. Generalized Single-dof models; rigid body models, models for deformable bodies. Time integration; Newmark’s method, implicit method, explicit method. Multi-dof models; finite elements, direct integration, modal superposition, eigenvalue analysis, response diagram. Earthquake analysis.
