Prerequisites: Knowledge and skills from basic mandatory courses including applied courses.
Assessment: To qualify for a final grade the student must have completed the compulsory hand-in tasks and passed the written examination. The final grade is dependent only on the result of the written examination.
Further information: The course is recommended after 150 ECTS credit points have been earned. The main teacher is PhD Anders Ljungberg.
Aim
The overall purpose of the course is to within the subject area Process Based Business Development give the student concrete tools and methods as well as principles, concepts and visionary perspectives. Through the understanding, skills and attitude development obtained, a foundation is provided for future active participation in the process orientation that is becoming increasingly characteristic of industry.
Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must
- understand and be able to explain what is meant by process based business development and what distinguishes this concept from the traditional hierarchical and function oriented business organisation
- be able to describe and explain how the subject area develops and why
- be able to describe and explain the different tools, methods and principles used in the work and also how they are used
- be able to describe and explain the different types of roles that exist in a process organisation, what they imply and their areas of responsibility and authority.
Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must
- independently or in a group be able to develop a main process map on the right level of detail and including subprocesses, activities, support processes and management processes
- be able to design a system for measurement of performance in an organisation
- be able to communicate and discuss the results with different types of stakeholders.
Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must
- be able to abandon the traditional function oriented paradigm and employ a process oriented paradigm to be able to view an organisation from a horizontal approach instead of from a vertical one. This implies that s/he shall be able to identify the most important processes in a participating company with the help of knowledge, skills and understanding developed by the course, and with the help of information the student chooses, collects and compiles to qualify him/herself. This takes place independently of the existing organisational form in the company.

Drivers and motives for process based business development. Processes and the process concept. Process oriented organisations. Structure and leadership for process organisations. Customers and customer satisfaction. Identifying and mapping processes. Measurement system for processes. Analysis and development of processes. Business development with a process paradigm.
