LOGISTICS IN THE BUILDING PROCESSMTTN01

Higher education credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: A (Second level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. MTTN01 overlap following cours/es: MTT105, MTT105, MTTF01, MTT105, MTTF01, MTT105 och MTTF01. Optional for: V4fu, V4ib. Assessment: To qualify for a final grade, the student must have satisfactorily completed and presented the compulsory project and passed the written examination. The final grade is a combination of the weighted grades obtained on the project (0,5) and on the written examination (0,5). Parts: 2.

Aim
The course presents a process-oriented view, and stimulates the creation of effective and efficient material flows in the construction industry. The course also furnishes basic and advanced knowledge regarding handling, transport and system design. Furthermore the course provides skills in identifying problems, analysing material flows and designing logistic systems. The course offers an introduction to logistics terminology and theory.

A project, which is part of the course, is meant to provide skills in identifying and solving problems, and to provide experience in carrying out and presenting a project. It should, furthermore, stimulate the students to exercise independent and critical thinking.

Contents
The basics of logistics and its role in the construction industry are addressed in seminars. Different methods and theories regarding materials control and materials supply are dealt with in exercises. The students will carry out an extensive project assignment at a building site, where a logistics problem or a possibility will be identified, and the students should formulate the problem and develop suggestions for solutions through studies and research. The project assignment will be presented at a seminar in the form of a technical report. Study visits to relevant companies in the building industry's supply chains will take place, where company representatives will describe their role and their activities. The course concludes in a written examination that will test and develop the student's understanding and knowledge.
