Based on an overall procedure model of the industrial development process, the course starts up by introducing the product planning or alternatively the product renewal process. Within this process it is explained how the industrial enterprise, based on the business goal, initiates an overhaul of the product assortment. This is followed by generating a number of product (project) proposals, a product portfolio, suitable to be carried out as product development projects in the enterprise.

In the next part of the course the product development process is elaborated upon. Focus is set on the conceptual development phase. After having introduced the theoretical development procedure a conceptual development project is carried out.

Both projects are, if possible, carried out in industry.
