Higher education credits: 9. Grading scale: TH. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. KETF01 overlap following cours/es: KAT090, KAT090 och KAT090. Compulsory for: B2, K2. Course coordinator: Bernt Nilsson, Bernt.Nilsson@chemeng.lth.se, Inst för kemiteknik. Prerequisites: KETA01 Chemical Engineering or KKKA01 Biotechnology and KFK080 Thermodynamics. Assessment: Written examnination as well as three exercises presented in technical PM and participation in laboratory studies. Parts: 3. Further information: As a compulsory course Chemical Engineering, Separation Processes is given in the second year. For the Chemical Engineering students a compulsory course in Heat engineering is given where heat transfer is applied to a number of thermal unit operations. Home page: http://www.chemeng.lth.se.

Aim
The aim is to transfer the understanding of molecular processes based on a natural science perspective into an understanding of macroscopic processes. Applications are collected from the fields of chemical engineering, biotechnology and from ecological systems.

Contents
First basic physics is applied to hydrostatics discussing force and pressure. These are used to describe, momentum-, heat-, and mass transfer with applications collected from chemical as well as bio technical systems.

The following fields are covered:

In order to study systems of unit operations three project exercises are included in the course. These collect the applications from the chemical engineering and the bioengineering fields to be studied by Chemical Engineering student and Bioengineering students, respectively.

By solving a number of practical problems the skill to solve engineering problems is trained at the same time as the basic theories are demonstrated.

In two laboratory exercises the ability to work in pilot plant scale is trained.
