Aim
To learn and apply the basics of product photography for print and digital media.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

Upon completion, the students shall be able to take high quality photographs of products and complete scenes. They shall be confident in operating a professional digital camera, lighting and composition as well as manipulating images in image software such as Adobe Photoshop.

Contents
The course commences with a brief introduction to digital photography and the equipment required. The essentials such as choice of lens, shutter speed, aperture and depth of field will be explained and applied as well as the relationship between these factors and their value for image composition. Lighting stages and flash setups will be built and used, the importance of white-balance and colour fidelity will be introduced. Details on scene composition and knock-out backgrounds will be given; the results will be manipulated in detail with Adobe Photoshop so as to create print-ready CMYK .tif-images as well as other formats used in digital media.
