Aim
The aim of the course is to provide theoretical and practical knowledge on the generation of and information extraction from multi-spectral images in different wavelength regions and on different spatial scales. Basic knowledge on image processing should be attained.

be able to judge the power of multispectral imaging techniques to extract physical and chemical information from images recorded in different wavelength bands.

Contents
Molecular physics and molecular spectroscopy, multispectral image registration, image processing, orientation on multivariate analysis, detector systems in the laboratory and in space, image processing systems. Space-based remote analysis and astronomical image analysis. Multi-spectral imaging for medical diagnostics and environmental studies.

Three laboratory sessions are included:

Digital visible and IR imaging

Image processing of data from the LANDSAT and SPOT satellites

Fluorescence imaging for medical and environmental diagnostics

Demonstrations include: Astronomy imaging, electron- and sweep microscopies, PIXE X-ray imaging, MRI imaging

Project, consisting of writing comprehensive reports from literature references
