MICROWAVE THEORYETEN01

Higher education credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: A (Second level). Language of instruction: The course might be given in English. ETEN01 overlap following cours/es: ETE091 och ETE091. Alternative for: MFOT1. Optional for: E4, E4rn, F4, F4f, F4tf, Pi4. Course coordinator: Professor Anders Karlsson, anders.karlsson@eit.lth.se, Inst för elektro- och informationsteknik. Recommended prerequisits: ETE110 Modellering och simulering inom fältteori eller ETE055 Elektromagnetisk fältteori or ESS050 Elektromagnetisk fältteori or ETE055 Elektromagnetisk fältteori. Aim
The course gives an understanding of the physics of transmission lines, waveguides, and optical fibres. It gives an introduction to the analytical and numerical methods that are used in this area. The students get skills in measurements with network analyser. They also get experience in treating extensive applied problems and projects.

Contents
Transmission lines, Smith chart, network analyser, S-matrix, rectangular and circular wave guides, TE- and TM-modes, resonance cavities, optical fibres, optical components in optronics, periodic structures and the finite element method.
