HISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE III THE AESTHETICS OF HISTORICAL ARCHITECTURE

Higher education credits: 2. Grading scale: UG. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. AHIF01 overlap following cours/es: AHI011, AHI021, AHI011, AHI021, AHI011 och AHI021. Compulsory for: A3. Prerequisites: AHI011 History of Architecture I and AHI021 History of Architecture II. Assessment: Attendance (80%) to lectures. Aim
The main aim of the course is to give a deeper understanding of the aesthetics of historical architecture.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

be able to explain, discuss and consider about the use of aesthetical principles in historic architecture
in an authentic enironment be able to analyse and discuss these principles

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

be able to give an account of the signification of scale, time, rhythm, proportion and colour in architecture

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

be able to make use of the aesthetic principles in their own projects

Contents
The aesthetics of historical architecture in words and practice from Alberti to Aldo Rossi.
