The course aims to make clear the possibilities of both the finer points of visual communication and a method of using it to generate ideas and resolve problems. It aims too to enlarge skills in and perceptions about visual communication. A further aim is to clarify how images can mediate information and how communication is affected by the interpretation. The course includes exercises in creative architectural gestalt work, three-dimensional digital modelling of buildings, graphical layouts, digital manipulation of images, drawing coloration and visual communication using posters including images, drawings and texts. The exercises give student individually first-hand opportunities of developing layouts and ideas and making them visible. Lectures give the theoretical background and an introduction to the exercises. Students’ abilities to make assessments and formulate their thoughts about images are stimulated in a final survey.
