Aim
The aim of the course is to give basic knowledge about environmental psychology, its research tradition, methods and application. Furthermore the course aims to give basic knowledge about how environmental psychology could be used in practice.

Knowledge and understanding
For a passing grade the student must

• have basic knowledge about the subject.

• should be able to discuss central issues within environmental psychology.

• understand in what areas environmental psychology research results may be applied

Skills and abilities
For a passing grade the student must

• with the help of instruction be able to correctly use different environmental psychology instruments for measurements

• with the help of the literature on their own describe environmental psychology theory and research

• with instruction be able to make a written summary and an oral presentation of the results gained by using the environmental psychology instruments.

Judgement and approach
For a passing grade the student must

• be able to critical evaluate and discuss environmental psychology theory and methods.

Contents
Structure and content: The course consists mainly of lectures and assignments that are presented at seminars. The content of the course is man in relation to the physical and psychosocial environment and the interaction between them. The following parts are included: The emotions of man, stress reactions, personality, methods for measuring the experience of the environment, environmental related complaints, the need of elderly and children, life style and global environmental issues, human impact on the environment, and the impact of different environmental factors such as light and colour.
