SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGNAAHF10

Higher education credits: 9. Grading scale: UG. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Compulsory for: A3. Course coordinator: Christer Malmström, christer.malmstrom@arkitektur.lth.se, Inst för arkitektur och byggd miljö. Assessment: Approved assignment tasks, approved examination project and at least 80% attendance at seminars, lectures and group presentations. The qualities of the project assignment and presentation are evaluated and discussed by an examination team comprised of the course examiner, lecturers and external critics after which the examiner decides if the project is considered to fulfil the requirements for a pass. In the case of a non-pass the student has the right to a new examination opportunity after any necessary amendments or re-formulation of the project. The examiner informs the student as to what is required in order to achieve a pass.

Aim
The aim of the course is to support the students’ ability to architecturally design a building, existing or new, which from theoretical and practical point of view brings together aspects concerning form, technique and sustainability.

Contents
Main focus of the course is the forming of a building from artistic, technical and to society related aspects. Major attention is paid to the design of a small or medium sized building with an in advance established programme. Relations to townscape / landscape shall be considered but focus is putted on construction, energy efficiency and long range sustainable aspects on the building level. The teaching treats actual competence within the field, potential future developments and the role of architecture within this context. Instructions are given concerning the practical application of knowledge in the architectural design. Teaching is based on exercises executed individually and in groups, through seminars, lectures, visits and tutorial reviews. In parallel literature studies is carried out.
