Higher education credits: 4,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Compulsory for: ID4. Course coordinator: Hans Landström, Hans.Landstrom@fek.lu.se och Jörgen Adolfsson, Jorgen.Adolfsson@fek.lu.se, Företagsekonomiska inst. Assessment: The student has to hand in two papers, done in group. The papers should be related to the course literature and to the development of a business plan. This will give 20 % of the credits. 60 % will be given though a business plan. The student has to be present 80 % of the scheduled time.

Aim
The aim of the course is to provide the students with theoretical knowledge as well as practical ability regarding entrepreneurship, especially focussed on the creation and development of new firms. A holistic perspective on entrepreneurship will be given, including the business creation process, the role of the entrepreneur, and the importance of the context. Special attention will be given to the business creation process; business opportunity recognition, resource acquisition, and the exploitation of new business opportunities.

The course contains three parts:

Part I: Conditions for entrepreneurship

- Entrepreneurship as a phenomenon

- Entrepreneurship as a career path

- Conditions for entrepreneurship (context, individual, and process)

Part II: The entrepreneurial process

- Business Opportunity Recognition

- Market needs and segmentation

- Planning and resource acquisition

- Economic planning and control

- Business plan

- Intellectual property rights

- Market exploitation and market strategies

- The business platform and growth

Part III: Business plan

The students will work in groups (2-3 students) with business concepts initiated by themselves.
