RECYCLING TECHNOLOGYMMT195

Higher education credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: A (Second level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. MMT195 overlap following cours/es: TNM171 och TNM171. Optional for: M4. Course coordinator: Associate professor Mats Andersson, mats.andersson@iprod.lth.se och M. Sc. Johan Persson, johan.persson@iprod.lth.se, Industriell Produktion. Recommended prerequisits: MMT012/MMT186 Production and Manufacturing Methods and FKM015 Materials Engineering, Basic Course. The course might be cancelled if the numer of applicants is less than 10. Aim
Sustainable development and recycling are issues of which importance is increasing in the society. The aim of the course is to prepare the student on existing and future demands in this area.

Contents
The course deals with principles of material recycling and applications for recycled material. It emphases on demands today and tomorrow on products both national and international.

The connection between choice of material and design in development of products together with production techniques and the possibility of recycling the product is dealt with and also a comparison with established materials and newly developed materials.

The tools for achieving the stipulated environmental goals are presented, mainly technical but also organizational. LCA is dealt with both theoretically and practically. The students will carry out a project where they apply the theory on a given product or group of products. The project will be presented both orally and written.

The course also has experimental exercises where the properties of different materials are analysed after recycling and reuse.

A folder with materials which is put together and sold by the department.
