Higher education credits: 7,5. Grading scale: TH. Level: G2 (First level). Language of instruction: The course will be given in Swedish. Optional for: I3, M3. Recommended prerequisits: MMK010 Manual and Computer Aided Drafting in Mechanical Engineering, FMA410/FMAA05 Calculus in one Variable and FMA421 Linear Algebra with Scientific Computation. The number of participants is limited to 90 Assessment: Continuous assessment during the line of the course consisting of hand-in exercises and guest lectures. At the end of the course there is a compulsory computer modelling test and an optional written examination. If a student doesn´t pass the computer modelling test a new opportunity is given directly after the first occasion. One aim of the course is to give a wide perspective of the potential of available computer tools/support for engineers working with product data documentation and process engineering. Another aim is to generate advanced users of the solid modelling software Pro/ENGINEER.

The core of the course is computer aided during the line of engineering work, dealing with both theoretical and practical knowledge within computer aided design CAD, computer aided manufacturing CAM and computer aided engineering CAE. The content embodies equipment for CAD/CAM, basic CAD and CAM techniques, generating and manipulating assemblies, data transfer between systems (IGES,VDAFS, STEP), curves and surface description (spline, B-spline, Bezier, Coons, NURBS), solid modelling (CSG, boundary representation, voxel representation), transformations, projections, rendering, visualization, rapid prototyping, product data management (PDM) and product lifecycle management (PLM). Great effort is put on the practical work and the hand-in exercises are performed to cover the variety of the course content. The excercises deal with surface and solid modelling, assembling parts into a product, making drawings, simulation of movement and performing an animation, sheet metal forming, process planning for manufacturing and developing tools for moulding. The process planning work is emanating in NC code for a multi operations machine used to manufacture the modelled part.
